British bikes hold a special place in my heart. I can't quite explain why. Maybe it is because when I was in my teens and early 20’s and lusting after some form of 2-wheeled transportation, Harleys were so far out of my price range that it made my head spin. Or maybe it was just the fact that everybody and their brother seemed to own a Harley (or at least want one). Whatever the case, when Mongo and I came across this bare metal British beauty at the Detroit Autorama this past winter, my pulse began to race. We asked
around, looking for the owner of the ‘58 Triumph bobber, but were unsuccessful in our attempts. We later found out, with a quick post on the Jockey Journal web site, that the owner was Jeff Triggs from Montrose, Michigan. A couple emails and some phone tag, I learned that Jeff had already disassembled the bike following it's showing in the Motor City.
It seems that Jeff's storage location was a little on the damp side, causing the bare metal frame to begin to rust. Being the owner of Multi Blast and Unlimited Powdercoating Jeff decided to blow the bike apart and lay some semi-gloss clear powder over the glass bead blasted metal parts. The results are about as close to the look of actual bare metal as you're likely to get without the worry of rust.
